Six of Crows Fanfiction Masterlist

In honor of one year of writing in the Six of Crows fandom this February, I’ve decided to make a masterlist of my writing. 💕 Thank you for all of your encouragement this past year. Thanks to so many of you, I have been able to reconnect with something that brings me so much joy!

the average color of the universe, cosmic latte vs. aziraphale

Cosmic latte

“Cosmic latte” refers to the average color of the universe as determined by a team of astronomers led by Karl Glazebrook and Ivan Baldry. In 2002, they conducted a study to determine the color of the universe by combining light from over 200,000 galaxies.

After analyzing the spectral data from these galaxies, the researchers calculated the average wavelength of light and determined that the color of the universe, when viewed as a whole, is a pale beige or light brown. They humorously named this color “cosmic latte” due to its resemblance to the color of milky coffee.

The color was arrived at by combining the light emitted by stars of different ages and colors in the observed galaxies. It represents a composite color that takes into account the distribution and intensity of light throughout the universe.

The discovery of the cosmic latte color provides an interesting perspective on the overall composition of the universe. It indicates that the combination of stars and galaxies across vast distances creates a uniform hue when viewed from a distance.

While the term “cosmic latte” is not an official scientific term, it has gained popularity in popular science discussions and has become a recognizable way to describe the average color of the universe. It serves as a playful and relatable way to conceptualize the vastness and complexity of the cosmos.

Questionable math but thirty IS young.

tlirsgender:

One thing I enjoy about how Kaz is written is the way his fixation with money is very specifically in a poor people way. He isn’t greedy like a ceo he’s greedy like someone who doesn’t want to be homeless (again) and gets twitchy about it. Having More is appealing specifically because he used to have nothing. You know. It’s a very distinct vibe the author executed very well imo

Plus there are cultural ideas that run pretty deep just from being Kerch even though he isn’t religious about it it’s still, like.. in his head. Underlying ideology is much harder to shake than worshipping a god in itself & it shows in the way he thinks

17 for the ask meme :)

17. What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic?

One time I spent hours researching horse racing in the 18th-century for one throwaway line in Sankta Margaretha and Other Tales of Sorrow. But more recently, I have learned a ton about the artwork and furniture in Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the Mayor of NYC, because of Sleep No More. While I have taken some significant liberties with the layout of the mansion, it really does have three fences, a bee problem, a tromp l'oeil marble floor, and maybe some secret tunnels that were used by smugglers in colonial America.

Thank you so much for the ask!!!

11. Do you have specific playlists for writing fics?

While I can’t listen to music with words while writing, there is a channel on Youtube, lil nobody, that makes excellent character-themed playlists that I listen to while I write. I have linked a few of my favorites below:

I, also, have a few playlists with words that I listen to while editing. These have been my go-to Six of Crows playlists recently. The Jesper one in particular is EXCELLENT:

15. How do you come up with titles for your fics/chapters?

Strangely enough, most of the time, I start with the title before writing anything else in the story. This is true of People of the Air, Between the Lightning and the Lightning Bug, Ghost Girl’s Guide to Ketterdam, Ten Minutes in the Life of a Pear, and Love’s Austere and Lonely Offices. In fact, I have vivid memories of pacing my studio apartment in NYC at the height of the pandemic with only the title Ghost Girl’s Guide to Ketterdam and nothing else. I liked the way the title felt in my mouth.

(Of course, there was more to it than that, but that is another whole essay.)

Anyway, I think the “title-first” tendency stems from the fact that I tend to daydream about Six of Crows characters while reading poetry, and then the stories grow from there. Here are some of the titles are allusions to poetry:

  • The title for Love’s Austere and Lonely Offices is a reference to “Those Winter Sundays” by Robert Hayden.
  • Musee des Beaux Arts is a reference to a poem by W.H. Auden (and a painting by Brueghel)
  • Sleep No More is a reference to Macbeth (and In a Station of a Metro by Ezra Pound plays a huge role in that fic as well)

Thank you so much for the ask!!!
